As a continuation to the last article about all the misconceptions about Teething, here are some of the most asked questions on multiple platforms including Quora and Yahoo.
1. What is the General Teething Period?
Teething usually starts at around the age of 5 months and can extend to as much as 12 months. One to two months variability is considered normal.
2. Why does teething make the child sick?
Some children experience diarrhea and flu, but this is not really caused by teething. The time at which they are teething is also the time at which their maternal antibodies( antibodies that were transferred via the placenta) are diminishing. Hence lowered immunity = Flu-like symptoms.
3. Does the tooth cause pain while erupting?
It's not really the tooth that is causing the pain, but the follicle from which the tooth originates. The Follicle is a rich source of inflammatory factors like Eicosanoids, Cytokines and Growth Factors which cause localized inflammation in that area.
